For nearly 70 years, the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) has been widely recognized as one of the leading providers for certification specializing in supply chain management. However, due to ongoing development and improvement, the organizational structure of the association has changed.
The Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) has been established which will encompass several entities, including APICS.

The core offerings of APICS revolve around its technical knowledge standards, which encompass crucial methodologies such as MRP and MRPII, outlining key planning and management practices. Notably, these standards have evolved organically from practical implementation, spanning from strategic formulation to operational execution. A key distinction in supply chain management stages lies in the scope and depth of planning: the nearer the stage, the finer the level of detail.

Currently, APICS places significant emphasis on certification.
